# Stage 2: How do you audit overlapping scouting data subscriptions?

**Map subscriptions to completed recruitment tasks—not to overlapping marketing categories.** Two products showing player statistics are not necessarily interchangeable; equally, two interfaces may deliver the same underlying evidence.

Collect the club’s order forms, entitlement schedules, invoices, amendments, account-admin exports and relevant support correspondence. Include central or group-provided access, and confirm whether that access is guaranteed for the proposed evaluation period.

### Build the entitlement register

Use one row per product/module/contracting entity, with these fields:

`Supplier | Product | Contracting entity | Users/seats | Competitions | Seasons | Video rights | Data fields | API/export rights | Storage rights | Group sharing | Annual fee | Renewal date | Notice deadline | Operational owner`

For each entitlement, attach its supporting document and date. Use **unknown** where the contract or account evidence is missing.

Then create a task matrix:

| Recruitment task | Current answer | Evidence and source | Active staff time | Important limitation | Dependency if cancelled |
|---|---|---|---:|---|---|
| Identify candidates for a defined role | Record actual result | Search/export reference | Measure | Missing population or filter | Search or model dependency |
| Verify behaviour on video | Record actual result | Match and timestamp | Measure | Missing footage or unsuitable angle | Clip library or linked reports |
| Assess movement or physical context | Record actual result | Dataset/model version | Measure | Definition or coverage uncertainty | Feed, model or specialist interpretation |
| Present a supported recommendation | Record actual result | Completed report | Measure | Manual reconciliation | Report templates and stored notes |

**Baseline instructions:** ask the existing team to complete the agreed tasks using its ordinary authorised tools. Save the answer, evidence, active work time, elapsed time, support required and unresolved questions. Give the incumbent a reasonable opportunity to explain unused entitlements; otherwise, the comparison may be against an avoidably weak baseline.

### Why must ownership and underlying sources be mapped?

Hudl announced integrated Wyscout video within its enhanced Statsbomb platform on July 28, 2025. Its Statsbomb FAQ specifies that integrated video access depends on purchasing the relevant package. Therefore, compare the quoted entitlements rather than treating “Wyscout vs StatsBomb” as a simple choice between unrelated subscriptions. Industry reporting has also documented consolidation across sports technology. Use ownership information to investigate commercial dependencies and concentration—not to conclude that products under the same owner are redundant. ### What counts as removable overlap?

Classify each apparent duplication:

- **Same evidence, similar workflow:** investigate consolidation.
- **Same evidence, better interpretation:** test decision value separately.
- **Complementary evidence:** retain the distinction in the evaluation.
- **Operational backup:** ask whether resilience justifies the additional cost.
- **Unknown dependency:** do not recommend cancellation yet.

Before declaring a subscription removable, conduct a **removal test**: repeat its essential tasks without it, including downstream reports and integrations. Record what stops working and what must be rebuilt or relicensed.
